{Salvaged Relatives editions I and II delivered to their new homes by way of the scenic route.}
de•liv•er |diˈlivər|
verb [ trans. ]
1 bring and hand over (a letter, parcel, or a troupe of Salvaged Relatives) to the proper recipient or address : the costumed cast should be delivered on time to the library | [ intrans. ] we'll deliver direct to your door, no matter the geography.
And that's just what we did. We hand-delivered edition I of our Salvaged Relatives to the Special Collections of the State Library of New South Wales and edition II to the Baillieu Library at the University of Melbourne. Before the birds had had their first coffee and cigarette, we flew up to Sydney on a shoestring and naturally made the most of our detour by way of Chuck Close and his brilliant and labour intensive process (Chuck Close — Prints, Process and Collaboration, MCA), a thrill of pulp fiction (Pulp Confidential: Quick & dirty publishing from the 40s & 50s, State Library of NSW), and a riot of Pop before the wearies took hold (Pop to popism, Art Gallery of NSW). On Sydney's heels, the second edition was delivered by way of commemorative postcards, children’s drawings, and a giant mythical catfish namazu from the East Asian Rare Materials Collection (Aftershocks: Experiences of Japan’s Great Earthquake, Noel Shaw Gallery, Baillieu Library).
Here's to being one's own courier and to taking the leisurely route. Here's to seeing where the things you make end up. Here's to collections. To collaborations. And to process. To 120 colour woodblock prints. Here's to all of that and more.
+ We're thrilled to be one of the featured artists at the forthcoming Melbourne Art Book Fair from the 1st through to the 3rd of May at NGV International. See you papered! See you there!
+ Really? Is that what we look like?
