My recent Star Wars episodes I (The Phantom Menace, 1999) through VI (Return of the Jedi, 1980) and Dr Who bender tells me I am feeling rushed off the feet at present and thus resorting to my usual-for-this-time-of-year crutch: a spot of beloved SciFi escapism. I am seeking refuge from the whirligig that is late November through to December by revisiting these familiar faces and tales from my childhood as this collection of photos (from when I was eight or so) shows. I am drawn to the battles between good and evil, the clear moral code, the neat conflict resolution, the brilliant villains, the humour, the epic vast-sprawling nature that highlights one's small footprint. And then there's quantity; I can become lost in hours and hours and hours of footage. How very appealing it sounds to stall time through such visual indulgences. Here's to the suspension of Now.
{In an Ewok singlet top (with Caitlin who recently I had the pleasure of bumping into in the aisle of a supermarket neither of us oft frequent. She, on a search for eggs to make cupcakes with her little ones, and me, post yoga class, on a quest to find dog treats for Percy.).}
{A Christmas haul reveals Star Wars figurines, the Ewok singlet sported in the above, and a Tardis money box with the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. Those perhaps also of similar age may also recognise a Care Bear and a tin of Derwent pencils. (What appears to be displeasure is actually the face of waiting for my Dad to take a photo with his Pentax camera.}
{With very own family Dalek.}
{Tom Baker wishes me a good year in 1980.}
{And, of no correlation other than sharing a page in the family scrap book, two drawings (now with yellowed sticky tape) from when I was five. Could that be a Tardis on the green hill?}
+ The Room Illuminated features Jazimina's brilliant blue bathroom (This link, too, nothing to do with SciFi.)
