{All at Sea in The Big Issue.}
In the recent special summer edition of The Big Issue (No 422, 26th December 2012 – 10th January 2013), across the top of pages 14 and 15 and nestled high on page 17, two collages by Louise and me that draw for you the sea and those who favour it. Here's to the untameable, changeable beauty of the sea, to being in awe of nature and feeling oneself but a small part in a big world. It was a pleasure to work on these collages, so much so that we made several for the good folk at The Big Issue to choose from.
You can see further in Louise's recent windswept post here.
{Several collaborative collages in which we explore the sea and find that an old coat can look like a wave.}
Let the words of author Laura Jean McKay allow you to travel from Melbourne to Auckland by cargo ship (should you be fortunate to find a copy of the summer special edition).
As a passenger on a cargo ship you experience the collision of two very different worlds —the tourist's world and that of the working sailor. One longs for adventure and the other, in the most adventurous of occupations, longs for home.
(Laura Jean McKay's short story collection will be published by Black Inc. Publishing this year.)
