(1, 2, 3... 4 of 100 Cats, plus a ring in. In seven seconds. Blink and you'll miss them, three new artworks for Off the Kerb gallery's 100 Cats exhibition.)
When my eyes, drawn like a magnet
To this cat that I love,
Come meekly back again
And I look inside myself,
I see with amazement
The fire of its pale pupils,
Clear beacons, living opals,
Looking at me fixedly.
(from Selected Poems of Charles Baudelaire, trans. Geoffrey Wagner, New York, Grove Press, 1974)
Opening this Friday evening, 100 Cats at Off the Kerb in Collingwood, to raise awareness and funding for Ingrid's Haven, a non-profit, no-kill shelter in Broadford. For our part, we have created three postcard collages with hand-coloured scenery and feline additions. A Leopard (Panthera pardus), a Leopard Cat (Felis bengalenis), a Jaguar (Panthera onca), and a Golden Cat (Felis aurata) all feature, and all three works have been beautifully framed. In support of a good cause, they are ready for good homes.
