Zines allow me to send my work out into the world without pressure, without expectation, simply for the joy of sending them out. The drawings in this new work Quadrupeds drawn from London's Natural History Museum collection were made in a state of joy. Joy derived from the pleasure in visiting such a grand museum as the NHM and joy in the act of drawing these once magnificent creatures. I hope you enjoy this little zine as much as I did making it.
Talking of enjoyment, here is another work I guarantee will bring a smile to many: There, a moment held by Gracia Haby.
Both these new works were made especially for Shelf Life (Delmar Gallery, 144 Victoria Street, Ashfield, NSW, 14th of November – 5th of December, 2010).
On a separate note, I like the new way Gracia has described the zine category on our site…
“Since 2002, we have been making zines to share with you. What began as a cut, fold and staple affair has since grown to become something altogether more elaborate, something more akin to our artists’ books. Today, what we refer to as a zine straddles with ease the space between zine and artists’ book by way of small publication. Call them what you will, we ask only that you derive some joy from them.”
What do you think?
