Dear you,
A deltologist is someone who collects postcards. I cannot believe I am only learning this now. All this time and there was a glorious name for it. My parents are the two super slueths responsible for bringing this word to my attention, a recent trip to Geelong to see the exhibition, Wish You Were Here, at the National Wool Museum, yieleded the treasure.
Yours happy to have a name to fit about the shoulders,
G
“Dear Ive,
Our dear little Ella was taken to the hospital today, the Dr. thinks it might be typhoid.
Love from Flo.”
"Early postcards may have included an ornamental border, but no picture. The first known picture postcard was mailed from Vienna, Austria in 1871. Initially, pictures on postcards took the form of small views within a decorative frame leaving most of the face free for a message."
