{Celebration collages for Hila.}
When Hila invited Louise and me to put together a guest post linked in some way to the theme of celebration, we were both of us thrilled. Of course, we’d absolutely love to, was the reply. So, to mark the recent publication of Cultural Afterlives and Screen Adaptations of Classic Literature: Wuthering Heights and Company by Hila Shachar published by Palgrave Macmillan, here is our Bravo! post (in full, and with, quite possibly, the sweetest introduction) on the beautiful le projet d’amour.
In coming together to make these collages to mark Hila’s triumph, we asked ourselves what would we like to do for a celebration. Being quiet and oft mole-like, this would perhaps mean an amble about the zoo on an afternoon. A punnet of hot chips shared in front of the seals as they spin, spin, spin in the blue watery pool. A delightful scene to watch, the happiness of seals performing all manner of loops, flips and incredible contortions. What I would not give to join them, were I naturally with flipper, and invited. This is where we began, and from there, this ten grew to include scenes to live vicariously through and peasant dancers in a cabin (in a photograph by Kirchner, in the last piece above). Quiet celebrations and those slightly wilder, yes, this was a great deal of fun to work on. (Thanks for having us, Hila, and here is to one day meeting up for a face-to-face conversation.)
