Hot days and reading.

{All very ordered and as you'd expect. (Please click to see a little bigger.)}
Two baking warm days in a row (and a flurry of postal orders), Monday and Tuesday have afforded me a peek at the summer that lies ahead. Curtains and blinds drawn three-quarters closed allowing only a crack of white light through, three wilted cats lying in the hottest parts of the house, droopy leaves on my sole tomato plant, a sundress on which reminds me of those little tunics worn in the 70s when I was a child, and fruit for breakfast, it seems summer not officially here on the seasonal calendar has other ideas.
Long, light filled days and fruit aside, I am not all that keen on summer, unless of course it is the idyll summer day that grants me hour upon hour to read outdoors, lying in the shade. Recently I have read, though not under the canopy of the olive tree so loved by the white-tipped ringtail possum, Two Caravans by the author of A short history of tractors in Ukrainian, Marina Lewycka. Reading of strawberry picking in Kent with Andriy Palenko and Irina, and working in a slaughterhouse with Yola, Tomasz and Marta, proved a brilliant read though I doubt I shall ever be able to eat chicken again.

I love your polar bear with coloured lights as well as your 'falling softly to the ground below'. It is a perfect title for the weather here where big flakes of snow are falling very lazily to the ground.

I love All were in their place, it's wonderful. I agree it's a little too early for such weather but I am enjoying it I must say. Fruit for breakfast is such a lovely summer thing.

Thank-you all. It’s nice to hear that you like these new collage works and are equally as excited as I am in regard to the new greeting cards. It is a long overdue appearance from a handsome polar bear, don’t you think? Those round rumps, the twinkling lights looped around the shoulders, those little black eyes, yes, I am a polar bear fan and Louise captures them so very well. Best of all, she has drawn many more.
Oh, and Risa… for all your kind words and good deeds (and your love of muscle cars… your photo looks great in the forthcoming car zine… such a brilliant car!) I shall have to organize a little something extra.
And, Lisa, those “colored square page turning things” that caught your eye are from a colour combination chart for layered Japanese clothing from 1908. Beautiful colours, aren’t they? I like to speculate as to which colour combo I would wear. Today I think I’ll don the ruby red one with purple accents. Red doesn’t suit me, as a rule, but in my imagination there are no such rules.
Here’s hoping your weekends, though in the distance now, were lovely, especially those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving.
take care,
g xo

Oh I love these art pieces! You two make wonderful artwork! I love all the horses and that polarbear with the coloured dots! But the first picture is really intruiging in my opinion, it's very different. How did you come up with the idea??
Well love the weblog! And hope you two have a nice week!
