Monday, Tuesday... please, slow down a little.
A little short on words today so here’s some visuals from the week thus far. Visuals in their place. It may only be Tuesday afternoon, but I feel, already, as though I have let go of the reins and the week is out of control. It is, as I’ve already alluded to, galloping at tremendous pace in an open field and I’ve no means, none whatsoever, of reining it back into an orderly line. I think I’ll just leave it to do its own thing… sometimes it’s better that way.
Catching some winter sunshine in the local gardens en route to the airport to pick up my parents from their recent jaunt across the sea to Tasmania to see the Hawks loose. Enjoying a lunch of shelled green peas and a Sanpellegrino Limonata. A tasty snack, somewhat awkward to consume in haste, but so much to my liking.
Taking a sip of LJ’s Mandarino, but preferring my own (bakelite bangle co-ordination aside).
Wearing new and wonderful Dark Smokey Quartz Cluster earrings from Abigail Percy. They’ve barely left my ears since they arrived in the mail.
When at home working on a job I am a little less than enthused about I tend to wear this big, plastic red sparkler from the V&A (from LJ’s parents recent trip abroad). Needless to say, I am wearing it often of late.

{What's one thing more? View One.}
New collages... featuring Matsushima, an Inland Sea in Japan, and many Koriak handicrafts, as well as a few interlopers.

{What's one thing more? View Two.}
And a smattering of Iakut attire (from Eastern Siberia) makes its collage debut, coupled with various other forms from the natural world and antiquities of Southern Russia and the Black Sea coast (Gold ornaments and amphora, found near Kamenka).
Did I mention I miss the film festival? Well, I do. Terribly. The arrival of the brilliant Kauas pilvet karkaavat (Drifting Clouds) on dvd has helped to fill the blankness, though still I am mourning the passing of the festival. Next year, I am adamant, I shall go to even more screenings. Care to join me?
In the meantime I am anticipating with great eagerness Louise’s homage to the domestic cat from the order carnivora, and listening to:
{Joe Strummer - Burning Lights (I Hired a Contract Killer)}
*** Please, don’t forget the One in Ten auction which kicked off on the 19th. ***

your new collages are amazing! gosh. i just adore you.

Don't think I am not always searching for the postcards for you-- I am-- everytime I go into a thrift/antiques store-- I look-- so far I have not found the right ones-- the ones that BELONG to you. But someday I shall-- I promise. Love this post-- love the sparkly red ring to transport you much like Dorothy's sparkly red shoes, non?

Raw green peas are also a favourite of mine. And a slow snack to enjoy. Perhaps that is why you were craving them?

Oh, 'view two' has my heart! (I've been going over and over similar images of historic Finnish Laplander dress lately... completely fascinated.) I think, perhaps, that beautiful smokey quartz earrings might be the #1 way to ease the pain of a departed film festival.
Hoping you find a few moments of calm this week and wishing you many more lunches of peas and mandarino...

I think it's interesting how you eat fresh peas as a snack, the only types I eat are the wasabi ones. Love your earrings, bangles and ring :)

it is so cute that you like eating raw green peas as a snack, I quite like them stewed with poached eggs ... but you reminded me that I cannot pass by the fresh mushrooms in the supermarket without fernando taking a couple and eating then right there :) ... sometimes it is embarrassing.
I really like these new collages. they remind me of pieces in museum's cabinets.

Thanks, Risa… you’re such a sweetie.
Yep, a tried and true winning formula, Mum. Green peas and red sparkly jewels… there’s nothing finer.
Couldn’t (belatedly) agree more, Jac. Raw peas on such a fine day, enjoyed on a park bench in the sun, why it has me longing to go back.
Ah, Elizabeth, that is so very nice to know. Your comment posted here quite made my day. I look forward to a postcard or two, handpicked by you, one day soon… that is, when they decide to appear for you. Happy searching. I’ll have to post you a collaged postcard by way of thank you.
Looks like I’ll have to move a little quicker next time, Jenny. So good to know that your native plants, rabbits, & birds from Argentina all went off to new homes so swiftly though. Keep enjoying that tail end of winter and the newness of spring.
Hey there Lisa S,
So feel the same way every time I delve into your posts… loving everything.
Hi there Meg,
My week may have failed to slow, but it did turn into a mighty good one. Here’s hoping yours did too.
Hi there Carol,
Nothing like a slow snack sometimes, is there? Air-popped popcorn is another favourite of mine and I can enjoy that particular snack for a good 30 minutes. Best go rustle in the kitchen shortly, I think.
Finnish Laplander costumes and those from nearby countries are beautiful to behold, aren’t they, Andrea? I still have a few collaged postcards from Finland and Sweden to share… I must remember to fling them in a posting before they get swallowed up in one of many folders on my computer. Wishing a few of those calm moments your way as well.
Thanks, Maditi. I’ve just posted the final two of this handful of six collages. That said, there is sure to be a few more in keeping with these. So glad to hear you liked them.
Hmmm, a top ten film list… I’ll see what I can do, Shari. You’ve had me thinking of this all week long. Ten favourite films, eh? That’ll involve a great deal of research… I best take to my favourite cinema or spot on the floor by the telly, and start compiling a rough list. Yep, I think I’m going to enjoy this. More on this soon, I promise. I’ve just watched Songs from the Second Floor and loved it.
Yes! Yes! Lets organize that swap, Sabine. Looking forward to it.
Thanks, Brydie. And belated congratulations on your recent exhibition. We were fortunate enough to catch it on the very last day. Those assembled empty glass vessels of yours were beautiful. So hoping it went well for you… I’m sure it did.
Thanks, Julie. I enjoyed working on these particular collages and I’m keen to create more. Things have been pulling me in other directions of late and I’m so wanting to find a little more time to sit down with my new sharp scissors and a pile of papers ripe for collage.
Warm indeed, Veronica. Spring is, as is often said, nipping at the heels. The bulbs are beginning to surface in my garden, the cats are staking out their new sun-catching spots, and the dust on my windowpane is more illuminated than before.
Wow… really? You’ll have to give them a whirl, Crust Station. Raw peas are just so fresh and delicious. And, yep, I’m pretty chuffed with my new Abigail earrings as well.
Hey there Kylie,
A plastic sparkler of a ring from the V&A is perfect for the wearing when chores or silly tasks need doing. LJ has a matching one (pressies from her parents recent stint overseas), an oval shaped golden amber sparkler. Lets hope they don’t fall apart too soon.
Oh, yes, ho hum moods are banished, well at lest pushed aside to the corner, with the wearing of new jewels, Amisha. Enjoy your night owl readings.
take care, g xo
