I'm looking forward to the New Year

My last post for the year simply had to feature a bird, so why not make it two birds.

This pair may not be seen in the wilderness together, but today they are sharing the limelight on Elsewhere. They are a Blue-naped Chlorophonia from South America (seen here in colour) and a Tawny owl from the open woods.

These birds, along with new collaborative works made for Gracia and my forthcoming exhibition, By this unwinking night, are among some of the things you can hope to see on our brand new facebook page. Gracia and I invite you to head on over and Like us.

I'll be here over the summer, so pop back and say hi from time to time. Gracia and I are working towards an exhibition of our work at Latrobe Regional Art Gallery. It opens on the 4th of February (!?!), so you can expect many more drawings to appear here on Elsewhere in the New Year.

We've borrowed a line from J. Milton and assembled beneath it a gathering of works on paper new, recent, and near-to forgotten. We are using it as the roof to our shelter. Prints, artists' books, collage, drawings, and small publications laid out for you By This Unwinking Night.

A fine impression

Since last August I have been meaning to share this display of artists' books at the State Library of Victoria here on my blog. August is a very long time ago now as we pass mid December (Christmas next weekend!?). Luckily for me, this exhibition that opened in August is one that is on until February 2012. I am guessing that makes my timing just about right.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth with me

Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth is a favourite book of mine, and the 1959 film adaptation directed by Henry Levin was a favourite film of mine growing up. I watched it again recently and took these photos as I did so. I can't believe I didn't remember Gertrude the Duck nor her gruesome fate. Poor Gertrude!

Red foxes appear on a Saturday

How thrilling! Two messages early in the day from dear friends G and C alerted me to the feature of a certain Red Fox in today's Good Weekend. On page 53, alongside Able and Game, The Gently Unfurling Sneak and others, our Red Fox Return greeting card with one of Gracia's postcard collages starred.
