Today I have a Common shelduck for you to say thank-you for all your encouraging words about our online exhibition, Our boat was the lightest feather. Thank-you to everyone who took the time to email or comment. It means a lot.
I think I shall always refer to this species by its Latin name Tadorna tadorna. I believe it a more fitting name for this noble species, as I can’t see anything common about them. In fact I think they are striking, with their reddish-pink bill and chestnut patches. They don’t visit us here in Australia but if I were near the Wadden Sea, on the North coast of Germany, I might be lucky enough to see a flock of some 100,000 individuals.
