This is a drawing of Jung Pasha. He is an Indian Elephant that was on display in the Natural History Museum, London in the late 19th Century. In 1875-76, King Edward VII brought him to England after a tour of India. He then spent 20 years in Regent’s Park. He was one of many favourite zoo animals to make their way into the museum. Others include “Brutus the Lion, Guy the Gorilla and Chi-Chi the Giant Panda” (Museum through a Lens, Natural History Museum, London, 2009)
Also, here is a link to Last Chance to See, a series I have been watching of late that I wanted to share with you. The last episode told the story of four Northern White Rhinos taken from captivity and returned to Africa where they will hopefully bred and save their species from extinction. There are no Northern White Rhinos left in the wild. These four are the last in the world along with another two in captivity. Did anyone else watch this series and did anyone else fall in love with the Kakapo like me?
