The 2010 Melbourne Film Festival is long over and the dust has settled but my mind is full of swirling cinematic imagery from 28 films seen. Of those 28, there were several absolute gems. Images that remain in the foreground include a buffalo roaming the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan; the wise and inspirational figure of Swetlana Geier elaborating on her work translating Dostoyevsky into the German language; the incredible beauty of the Columbian landscape with fragments of piano accordion genius; the Turkish mountainside and forests, and the gentle and kind people that make it their home; and the discipline and hard work required to dance. All this and so much more. I feel quite spoilt by this years film treats, and quite inspired.
