I have been using a wonderful book on costume history to draw from of late. I have been drawing French bonnets, Russian boots, enamelled jewellery, Chinese hairpieces, Indian fans, Turkish slippers, and water pipes from Arabia. I have borrowed this book from the library and I am loathe to give it back (of course I shall be returning it… I promise). It is proving a handy resource and a great read.
Here are one or two objects drawn from it. Can you guess what they are? Some are from Oceania and others are from a Asian smoking set.
And, one more thing before I go, there is a new post up over here. A husk of hares await you, and if you thought the beginning was good just wait until you see these.
Medium: watercolour and pencil on Fabriano 640gsm traditional white paper
Dimensions: 18cm x 25cm

such beautiful and interesting drawings. will you share some of the shoes? i would love to see the russian boots and turkish slippers. xox

Hi there Shari, Elaine, Nina, Lisa, Brydie, Tiffany and Amisha. Glad you like these new works; I've plenty more to share with you over the coming weeks. Oh, and, Amisha, I'm really not all that sure what the first object is. I thought it was a woven basket of some sort (that I've drawn upside down), but today I'm not so sure. And, Brydie, these are all from that book I've had to return it to the library. I'm already missing it and think I shall have to borrow it out again soon. xo lj
