200 posts and a two bird give away

Lj_bird_1

Gh_bird_1_2

Today it my 200th post day. What better way to celebrate 200 posts and just over two years of very happy blogging than to draw a few birds and let you all know about this…

Fifty linen-fronted birds have recently been made (as part of an order for Lee Mathews). Fifty linen birds plus two. Two extra loves, the fetching Hester and the beguiling Hennie, made to give away to two kind blog-reading souls.

All you need to do to be in the running is to leave a comment below or over here (or both to effectively double one’s chances). Crossing your fingers also helps, or so I hear. Leave mention of your favourite common bird name and you may find you’ve tripled your luck. The spine-tailed log-runner, the spotted nightjar, the rainbow-bird with its fondness for dragon-flies and robber-flies both, the budgerigar, and the spotless crake… are any of these a favourite of yours? Perhaps you prefer the speckled warbler, a bird who favours a small, hooded nest.

(Should your inner ornithologist prove too hard to summon and you don’t know a snow goose from an azure kingfisher… you’ll find a handsome list of birds here and here.)

Best of luck, friends.

Gracia and I are in the process of making up a few more of these linen birds. So if you miss out on the give away then perhaps you’ll want to snap one up on our store in the coming weeks.

Medium: felt tip pen scribbles in my diary.

I do love birds. My favourite is the common house sparrow. Beauty in simplicity

*yay* for 200!! your little birds look awfully sweet :)

o i do love reading ur blog, and those birds are great! id have to say one of my favorites is the quail. i just love how tiny it is!

The blackbird! They have started singing around here, and that is a sure sign of spring :)

I lov ethe Blue Jay or the Cardinal, you never get to see them as often as you like, so it always seems like a day that will bring good lucl to all as a result. :) Truly.

Oh! Congrats on your 200 posts and please enter me in the little drawing! :) Hmm... common name for my favorite bird? The Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is probably one of my favorite birds. Its "common name" is the Virginia nightingale, which I think it rather sweet and romantic. ;) lol!

Oh, the sketches and birdies are just wonderful. My favs: Blue-footed Booby and the American Dipper. Did you know that dippers really do dip? It's amazing.

200 posts! Congrats!! As for birds, I've always been fond of the black capped chickadee.

Here's to many more posts! :)

Even the Turkey Vultures are beautiful in their own way.

happy 200th!
wowzers.

i've always been fond of the spotless cake {crake}! these are sweet ladies!

Okay, leaving my entry in two places and my fingers are crossed. Shall I choose another bird? I like Blue Jays too. I had one when I was 16, and his name was Jamie. I taught him to fly. I still miss him...

Fingers and toes for sweet flighty creatures!! I've always had a soft spot for Honey Eaters - love the way they hang upside down. x

well i would comment regardless of the bird give-away, but holy smokes that makes it that much more exciting.

happy 200.
so glad you are here....

Best bird name?

Pied Wagtail no question.

Absolutely lovely birds!

Happy 200th!

I love reading your blog - it provides me with lots of eye candy and inspiration.

Thanks for sharing with us!

happy 200th post louise!! here's to many many more.
my favorite bird is the white pelican :)
xox

happy 200th!
and i love your kingfishers!
there are so many wonderful birds to love that i dont' have a favorite.
but i do love blue-footed boobies!
they seem like the birds i'd want to be hanging out with at a bird party.

gorgeous pen sketches! i saw the linen birds over at High Up and left a comment, but it got me thinking of other names, when I was wee I always liked Kittiwake and Wood Warbler. as i type there is a little Wren flitting between the dried winter grasses as if he knows we are talking about his kind.

i'm appearing again, but to chime in a different bird-- the crow. been reading a bit of norse mythology and find it is a favorite of the one eyed journeyman.

simple brown sparrow. my fave.

oh how sweet are those precious little birds?? Around here there seems to be an over population of Robins, everywhere. Spring must be right around the corner. Now I will cross my fingers and toes that I win!!!

I do so love the Crow, shiny and black!! Like birds on a wire!

My favorite bird has to be the loon. Their black and white features are defintiely striking (along with the hint of color in their red eyes), but the real appeal is their call. If you wake-up before sunrise on your lakeside campsite, you can hear them, hauntingly, calling out their name to one another from across the lake. Add a cup of coffee and it's the perfect summer morning.

i love that you find/make the time for all this beauty for US to admire! the birdies are amazing...i always adore a little finch.

happy 200!
i can not pick a favorite bird because there are too many that i adore
i do like the magpie today but that is just today

Please, enter me into the draw.
My vote is for the blue fairy wren.

oh look at these beautiful birds! congrats on 200 posts. my favorite bird is the red headed woodpecker. it was always a treat to spot these birds in my backyard when i was a little girl. happy weekend. xox

OK, does anyone appreciate that there are 30,000 wild parakeets in London? Doves can fly at 200 mph? Ravens bleed from their eyes during sex? Hardboiling an ostrich egg takes 2 hours? Bower birds squish berries and paint the walls of their ground nests? Fleming's James Bond was a real-life ornithologist?

As for favorite names--who can choose from among the Dull-Mantled Antbird, the White-Headed Marsh Tyrant, the Point-tailed Palmcreeper, the Noble Snipe, and the Horned Screamer? From a Norwegian perspective, Hester and Hennie might enjoy meeting their cousin Helga.
