Zines are on the way
I know, I know, I keep making these big zine promises but the goods really are on the way. One zine is very near its trip to the photocopy machine, a further two are hatching, and one, a collaborative car zine, keeps growing by the minute.
As I have already alluded to, Gracia, Shari and I are getting very, very close to completing our collaborative food themed zine. The finishing touches are being made to the layout this very eve.
Along the way there were a few changes to my contribution. Note to self: contrast in your original is very handy when working with a photocopier. I worked on a bakers dozen (plus one) of pen drawings for the zine instead. All black and white, plenty of contrast, and so fun to create.
I’ve been drawing with pencil for the last few years and because of that I’d forgotten how immediate drawing with a pen could be. The marks of a pen are bolder and more unforgiving than that of a pencil. They can’t be erased or moulded. They are what they are.
Oh and we even managed to title our zine. We went for… Three in the Kitchen. What do you think?
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I’m hoping to get myself over to Officeworks (home of some very zine friendly photocopiers) although three very big hammer & daisy orders have fallen into our laps this week as well as a fantastic commission, so I think these things may distract me a little. Never fear, I think Cup Day – Zine Day has a nice ring to it, don’t you?
Medium: felt tip pen scribbles on paper.

Love them there scribbles on the page, LJ.

I can't wait for the zine! I haven't added anything new to my collection in almost 2 years! It's about time I get some new ones :)

Hi there Jane, Lottie, Risa, Amisha, Lisa, Marsha, Comfies and Erin,
So glad to hear that you are all as excited as I am about the forthcoming zines. “Three in the Kitchen” is on its merry way to the photocopy machine tomorrow, if we’re lucky. The final touches and last minute tinkerings have taken place so it is full steam ahead.
Gracia was also thinking of collaging one or two colour photocopy elements into each zine and, I have to say, I think this will make the zine really special. At this rate it will end up being one of our most elaborate zines to date. We are also thinking of hand stitching the pages rather that stapling.
Other zines in the pipeline include the “Have Wheels, Will Go” zine which if you haven’t submitted a little something for you have about a week up your sleeve.
All submissions are due by the 15th of November so get cracking. Those I have seen thus far are great.

Oh, and Amisha, you’ll be pleased to know that we get tins of French Market coffee sent over to us. We even add in a little extra chicory.
Lisa and Comfies, the reference to the French Press had me stumped until I realised it was the coffee plunger you were both referring to. Silly me, hey?
I hope it’s worth the wait, Erin.
cheers,
louise
