A whale of a time
I’ve decided to rename the month of April. I'm going to refer to this month as “AHHH, is there going to be enough time?”. It’s as a result of feeling like I need to work, work, work towards an exhibition deadline and various other work commitments. And as I feel this way, all stressed out around the edges, I feel I need to make a little blog apology to all my dear blogging buddies out there for I've not been around to read about all of your adventures and happenings. I will get there. I'm just a little late.
It seems that socialising and having time to stop and smell the roses (or read blogs) are the fist things to be put aside when the work pile gets too high.
Enough whining about time, or the lack thereof… I’m excited to show you all my new drawings of the Blue, Humpback, Minke, Northern Right and Gray Whales. Are whales not the most gorgeous crusty creatures ever? Well except for those polar bears, and the Fennec foxes, or the striped possum, or any clouded leopard… ok, ok they have a lot of competition… let's just say they are all beautiful.
And here’s what they have been up to…
Medium: watercolour and pencil on Fabriano 640gsm traditional white paper
Dimensions: 18 X 26cm (last four images 9 x 14cm)

Ah, Louise, your whales are as beautiful in watercolour as they are in the ocean. Bravo! It's easy to see why the Right whale got his/her name... perfect indeed.

They're beautiful! Whales are just amazing; their gentle nature and the music they make. They're just such peaceful creatures - you can't help but feel a little more relaxed while watching them or looking at a photo of them.
Thank you for sharing your drawings,
Tiff*

Wow, your whale paintings are wonderful, the varying shades of grey show their movement perfectly and I'm all for 'crusty' creatures :) Hope you get to enjoy the roses this weekend!

These are beautiful. The colours and the fines contours are perfect. So full of sensitivity.
I've been struggling with the same lack of time ...there is never enough. I wish I could find a way of not having to sleep.
Have a great week :)

Hello there G, He is just right indeed. Shame those whalers thought so though.
Hi Emily, Very true, I'm glad you liked them.
Ooh Julie, A favourite you say. I thought the polar bears were my favourite to draw but now I am hooked on drawing these beauties. Their textures and shapes are so fantastic to try and capture.
Thanks Risa, I've never seen a real one, just footage like this...

Cheers Shari, I think I'm going to try to draw a very large Humpback. Being that they are one of largest whales I think it's only proper I try to increase my drawings proportions a little.
Thanks Lisa, Time seems to be a running theme for the two of us, or more appropriately the lack thereof.
Hi Renee, Thanks for the tip, I'm glad you are finding drawing whales so enjoyable too.
Hi Tiff, You're so right, I probably should have invested in a whale songs recording/cd over the last few weeks. I sure could do with a little bit of that relaxation you mentioned.
Thanks Molly, mine too, I think.
Hi there Brydie, Look forward to maybe catching up at our show. There will be a whale or three to sing happy birthday to you if you can make it. I hope you have a wonderful day on the 27th of AHHHHHH.
Hi Crust Station, I hadn't made the 'crusty' connection, glad you like them.
Thanks Paula, Not sleeping always seems like the best plan, sometime I have great plans on working straight through the night. But every-time the clock strikes 1am my eyes start to strain and my concentration wavers. Needless to say my plan always fails.
Hi Maditi, I think I did for a tiny little bit, but it's taken me so long to respond to these comments that I can barely remember!
Thanks Amisha, Glad you think so.
I think so too, Marieke. I can't believe whaling on any scale still exists, who could harm such beautiful creatures?
No probs, Bugheart. I haven't read Moby Dick in years, maybe I'll have to pick up a copy and revisit it?
Oh you're so kind, Erin, and you too, Comfies.
cheers, all...
